@ericakinmd: Artificial sweeteners and brain health: could “sugar-free” come with a trade-off? A study linked higher sweetener intake to 62% faster cognitive decline. Researchers followed nearly 13,000 adults for about eight years, tracking memory and thinking skills. Seven sweeteners were studied. Six were associated with faster decline: aspartame, saccharin, acesulfame K, erythritol, sorbitol, and xylitol. Tagatose did not show the same association. The findings don’t prove these sweeteners caused the decline—but they deserve attention. “Sugar-free” alone doesn’t tell you whether a food supports your long-term health. Start checking ingredient labels. What’s sweetening your drinks, protein bars, and snacks? Save this for your next grocery trip. #BrainHealth #ArtificialSweeteners #CognitiveHealth #MetabolicHealth

Scott :
There are several important caveats:
Participants reported their own dietary intake, which can be inaccurate.
People who consume more artificial sweeteners may differ in other ways, including their diet, weight, metabolic health, and lifestyle.
Participants were not randomly assigned to consume sweeteners or avoid them.
The researchers did not find the same association between total sweetener intake and cognitive decline in people aged 60 or older.
The results are worth investigating, but they do not establish that diet soda or artificial sweeteners cause dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

I really need to see the association with xylitol because that is a natural sugar alcohol. I mean, are the artificial sweeteners divided out in any way shape or form as part of the study? And is it correlation or is it causation?

A lot of Stevia is mixed with xylitol and erythritol. You have to really watch your Sylvia.

Whenever someone starts a video with "they have discovered" or "scientists have found" or anything like that, i immediately am skeptical of the information being provided.

Can we stop just making videos and saying “A study shows…”? You didn’t give the name of the study or the methods, people see MD next to your account which means your word bears weight but you’re also scaring them over possibly nothing. Please inform responsibly.

It’s really simple. Trying to trick your body doesn’t end well. I quit diet sodas 20 years ago and it’s the best things I’ve ever done. If you can’t fit in a small amount of real sugar in your diet you have more you need to cut.
