A Maryland man known for his success as a quadruple amputee cornhole player is now facing serious criminal charges after authorities say he was involved in a deadly shooting. According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old #DaytonJames Webber is accused of shooting and killing a passenger inside his own vehicle during a dispute on Sunday night in La Plata, Maryland. Investigators allege that after the shooting, Webber fled the area and drove into Virginia. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells, was later discovered deceased in a yard in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Officials say two additional individuals who were seated in the back of the vehicle witnessed the incident. After the shooting, Webber allegedly asked them to help dispose of the body. The witnesses refused, exited the vehicle, and contacted police after flagging down officers from the La Plata Police Department. Authorities reported that the shooting was called in shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. Roughly two hours later, another individual reported finding Wells’ body. Investigators then obtained an arrest warrant for Webber. Law enforcement later located Webber’s vehicle at a gas station in Charlottesville, Virginia. He was eventually found at a nearby hospital, where he had gone seeking treatment for an unrelated medical issue. After being released, he was taken into custody and charged as a fugitive. Webber is expected to be extradited back to Charles County, where he will face charges including first- and second-degree murder. The sheriff’s office noted that everyone involved in the incident knew each other. Authorities have not yet determined what led to the argument that preceded the shooting. The case remains under active investigation. It is also unclear whether Webber has obtained legal representation. Beyond the allegations, Webber had built a reputation in competitive cornhole. He was featured by ESPN in 2023 and earned recognition as one of Maryland’s top players, winning a state title in 2020 and competing in the American Cornhole League World Championships the following year. In response to his arrest, the American Cornhole League issued a statement expressing concern and extending condolences to those affected, while emphasizing that the legal process is ongoing. Webber previously described cornhole as his life’s passion. He became a quadruple amputee as an infant after developing a severe bacterial infection that led to sepsis.#fyp #viral
