The crash photos taken from the video appear to show the vertical elevator gone. With no elevator I could tuck and become a lawn dart albeit a big one.

I think the problem starts with the original question asked of Google. Free fall and an uncontrolled, near-vertical dive are two entirely different things. A Learjet diving toward the ground is still experiencing aerodynamic forces, so technically it isn’t in free fall. The question should have been whether a Learjet can enter a nearly vertical, nose-down dive, and the answer is absolutely yes. Google also made an incorrect blanket statement that an aircraft must either glide or tumble. Neither is necessarily true. The aircraft’s appearance during the descent is not evidence that it was a missile.
