What is education? Education is supposed to open opportunities, equip you with knowledge, develop your skills and give you the ability to solve problems. It should empower you to build businesses, invent products, create jobs, manufacture things and become independent. But what are we doing in Africa? We spend years programming young people with information they may never use. We teach them to memorise, pass exams, collect certificates and look for jobs. We rarely teach them how to build, invent, manufacture, innovate or turn ideas into businesses. Then we wonder why we import almost everything. Is it a failure of our education system, or is it by design that we are being conditioned to depend on others? A continent that educates people without equipping them to produce will always depend on those who do. Africa doesn’t just need more graduates. We need more creators, inventors, engineers, manufacturers and problem-solvers. Education should not just teach you how to find a job. It should give you the ability to create opportunities for yourself and others.
