A girl who was 14 when she stabb3d her disabled sister to d3ath in 2021 will serve prison time after pleading guilty but mentally ill. Authorities said Helen Miller had cerebral palsy. Claire Miller, now 16, will serve 12 & a half to 40 years in prison on the charge of third-degree murd3r for the 2021 killing at her family’s Manheim Township home. The DA’s office explained that a person who waives their right to trial may plead gu*lty but mentally ill. Miller called 911 shortly after 1 a.m. on Feb. 22, 2021 and said she had kill3d her sister. When police arrived at the home, Miller was in front of the home. She waved them down & directed them to a bedroom where they found her 19-year-old sister, Helen, with a stab wound to her neck. Despite efforts to save Helen, she was pronounced dead at 4:13 a.m.. Police observed bl00d on the snow outside the home and on Miller’s pants. They also heard her repeatedly say “I stabb3d my sister.” During Miller’s plea & sentencing hearing, Assistant District Attorney Amy Muller asked that an expert doctor’s report detailing the defendant’s mental illness at the time of the stab*ng become part of the record of the case. Miller confirmed to the judge that she is being treated for depression & an unidentified psychotic disorder & was on medication. The court determined Miller was mentally ill, but not mentally disabled & imposed the prison sentence, the DA’s office said. Prosecutors did not dispute that Miller was suffering from a “mental health event” at the time of the kill*ng, but it legally did not excuse the conduct, Adams said. She said the sentence balances the nature of the offense, Miller’s age, her mental condition & the protection of society. Although Miller was in the adult court system, her attorney did try to get the case transferred to juvenile court. The defense argued that Miller had a psychotic break that led to the kill*ng, including auditory command hallucinations coming from a woman that Miller attempted to silence in the stab*ng. Prosecutors argued that she was having fantasies about kill*ng people even shared with a friend about her attempts to k*ll her fish in the months before the stab*ng. In July 2022, a judge said the case would not go to juvenile court & she was ordered to go to trial before she decided to take the plea. #crime #crimetiktoks #truecrime #crimejunkie #truecrimetiktok #crimetok #crimetiktok
