Authorities in Alabama say they have recovered remains believed to belong to a missing mother and her two children who disappeared earlier this year. Investigators believe the bodies are those of Aurelia Choc Cac, 40, and her children Niurka Zuleta Choc, 17, and Anthony Garcia Choc, 2, who were reported missing from their Mobile County home on Jan. 31. After weeks of searching involving the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI, officials announced on March 13 that human remains believed to be the family were located in Summerdale, Baldwin County. According to a criminal complaint cited by local media, the victims’ bodies were discovered buried and wrapped in plastic along with bedding. Jewelry bearing the names of Aurelia and the toddler was reportedly found with the remains. Authorities allege the three victims were killed with an edged weapon. Investigators say the 2-year-old suffered sharp-force injuries to the head, while Aurelia had multiple stab wounds to her chest and back. Prosecutors have charged Juan Carlos Argueta Guerra, 31, with three counts of capital murder. Guerra — who police say sometimes used the name “Hector” — has been in custody since Feb. 9 after initially being arrested in connection with the family’s alleged kidnapping. The victims were first reported missing by a neighbor. When deputies searched the home, they said they found signs of a violent struggle, including a large amount of blood and a missing mattress. Investigators also previously arrested Sliverio Garcia, 60, Aurelia’s employer, in connection with the case. Authorities said Garcia had been in a relationship with Aurelia’s 21-year-old daughter and was living with her at the time. He was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and held on an immigration detainer. Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood described the killings as “horrific” and “gruesome.” Prosecutors have since expanded the charges against Guerra to include multiple counts of capital murder tied to kidnapping and burglary, as well as abuse of a corpse and obstruction of justice. Officials say they plan to pursue the death penalty in the case.#fyp #viral
