Monogamy stems from patriarchy and the historical need to control women's sexuality, ensure paternity and pass down property and inheritance through legitimate male heirs. Women's sexual fidelity became a way to guarantee that men knew their children were biologically theirs, while women were expected to remain loyal, pure and sexually exclusive often under much stricter standards than men. Over time, these expectations became so deeply ingrained in society that we started treating them as natural rather than questioning where they came from. And even today, we often equate love with possession, jealousy with caring and exclusivity with commitment. I'm not saying that monogamy itself is inherently oppressive or that people can't genuinely prefer it, I'm saying we should question how much of our understanding of relationships is shaped by patriarchal conditioning and whether we choose monogamy out of genuine desire or because we've been taught it's the only acceptable way to love someone

Malcolm :
Have you ever wanted to punch someone in the face and yet not done it? That's the same as being monogamous and not cheating, even though you found someone attractive. Monogamy doesn't mean you are are never attracted to anyone else, it means you don't act on it.

If your implying sex, than no, but yes I can acknowledge I find attractive but I don’t have desire lol. By that logic everyone has desire for their ex.

if monogamy was natural cheating would be a rare occurrence. it's no way its the default setting all or most people.

Attraction is a feeling, desire is a want. I only *want* one person despite having the capacity to be *attracted* to several people. It's like just bc another entree looks good doesn't mean I'm gonna order two.

Matt Weiser :
We have a section of the brain that focuses heavily on possessive tendencies and territorial behavior. That part comes out when something we perceive as ours (For example, The relationship) is at risk due to another potential suitor. We are hardwired to get jealous over that, but we are also hardwired to notice attractive faces. Biological functions should not be brought up in a conversation about morality. Loyalty is the agreement that the relationship is exclusive, not that you shut your eyes off

so…what? whether or not it’s natural is completely irrelevant to if it’s moral. this is a naturalistic fallacy

There is attraction and there is libido. Two different things that are related but distinct. Both can exist without the other. In terms of being in a relationship, attraction is not going to stop, but the libido should be satisfied. Monogamy is natural because a lot of animals practicing out alien influences. To be truly polyamorous, I do not believe one should have a romantic relationship at all, but instead associates.

Genuinely don’t feel desire for anyone else once my feelings for someone for someone have grown past a certain point. At most i’m able to acknowledge that another person is an attractive person.
