Grizzly bears have some of the largest paws among land-dwelling predators. Their front feet are broad, powerful and equipped with five toes and long, curved claws that can reach several inches in length. These paws are essential survival tools. Grizzlies use their powerful forelimbs and claws to dig for roots, uncover insects, tear apart logs, turn over rocks and excavate winter dens. Their front claws average around 1.8 inches (4.5 cm), although some can grow considerably longer. However, there is an important detail about this particular photograph. It circulated online for years and was investigated by Snopes in 2024. A wildlife expert from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game explained that the paw was being held much closer to the camera than the man's body, creating a forced-perspective illusion that made it appear considerably larger. - @taz1311_t
