Iran pushed back Monday against President Donald Trump’s claim that a new round of U.S.-Iran negotiations is about to begin, creating a public disagreement over the status of diplomatic efforts. Speaking aboard Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said the U.S. had been prepared to launch what he described as its largest military strike since World War II but delayed the operation after requests from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, which he said believed a diplomatic breakthrough was close. Trump also claimed Iran urged the U.S. to hold off on military action and said talks were expected to begin Monday. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei rejected that characterization, saying Tehran is not engaged in direct negotiations with Washington. Instead, he said Iran is coordinating with Oman on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz and confirmed there are no plans for Iranian or U.S. delegations to meet in the immediate future. The disagreement follows weeks of heightened tensions. In July, the United States carried out 13 consecutive nights of airstrikes against Iranian targets after earlier peace efforts collapsed. A pause in military operations began July 23 to leave room for diplomacy, though no formal agreement has been announced. Responding on Truth Social Monday, Trump accused Iran’s leadership of sending mixed messages. He insisted discussions are taking place despite Tehran’s public denials and maintained that additional meetings are expected. Trump also reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains a top U.S. objective. While Iran continues to deny direct talks, Trump has argued that divisions within the Iranian government often lead to conflicting public statements, making negotiations difficult to interpret. Trump also warned that the military option remains on the table if diplomacy fails but emphasized he would prefer a negotiated resolution, saying his goal is to avoid further loss of life.#fyp #viral
