Cempasúchil, also known as the Mexican marigold (Tagetes erecta) is much more than a beautiful orange flower. It is one of the most meaningful symbols of Mexico's Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) a tradition deeply rooted in Indigenous culture and ancestral beliefs. 🌼 Where does this tradition come from? The use of cempasúchil dates back to pre-Hispanic times long before the Spanish arrived in Mexico. Indigenous civilizations including the Mexica (Aztecs) considered this flower sacred and used it in ceremonies honoring the dead. Its bright orange and yellow colors were associated with the sun life and the spiritual world. The word (cempasúchil) 🌼🌻 comes from the Nahuatl word *cempohualxochitl*, commonly translated as "twenty flowers" or "many flowers." 💛🧡 Why do we use it on November 1st and 2nd? During Día de Muertos families decorate their altars with cempasúchil flowers to welcome and remember loved ones who have passed away. According to Mexican tradition, the flower's vibrant color and powerful fragrance help guide the souls of the departed back to their homes. Families often scatter the petals along a path leading from the entrance of their homes to the altar, creating what is believed to be a spiritual pathway for their loved ones to follow. 🕯️ What does the flower symbolize? - 🧡 **Orange and golden colors:** The warmth and light of the sun. - 🌼 **Flower petals:** A path guiding departed souls home. - 🍃 **Its fragrance:** A symbol of guidance and remembrance. - ❤️ **Its presence on the altar:** Love, respect, and the connection between the living and the dead. 🇲🇽 More than a flower, it is our heritage. Cempasúchil also has a long history of traditional medicinal, agricultural, and natural dye uses. Its importance goes far beyond decorating altars; it represents centuries of Mexican knowledge, culture, and traditions passed down through generations. Every November 1st and 2nd, when we place these beautiful flowers on our altars, we are doing more than following a tradition. We are honoring our ancestors, remembering those we miss, teaching our children where we come from, and keeping their memories alive. 🌼 **Because love does not end when someone leaves this world. And according to our beautiful tradition, the cempasúchil flowers light the way home.** 🧡 *May their path always be filled with flowers, light, and love.* #fresno #fresno559 #buylocal #cempasúchil #diadelosmuertos You can get your flower’s delivered or you can go and see them and select the ones you would like to take home @Jerusalen
