YOU DON’T NEED YEARS OF EXPERIENCE TO START AN OFFSHORE CAREER — AND THIS IS WHERE MANY BEGINNERS GET IT WRONG! 🌊🔥 When I first started looking into offshore jobs, almost every vacancy seemed to require experience. I kept asking myself one question: How am I supposed to get experience if nobody gives me a chance? But here’s what I discovered. Not every offshore job requires years of experience. Some employers recruit beginners for entry-level and support positions, including roustabout, housekeeping, catering, and certain deck-support roles. And no, you don’t necessarily need an engineering degree to get started! But let me be clear: no experience doesn’t mean no requirements. Depending on the job and country, you may need an offshore medical certificate, recognized safety training, and other role-specific qualifications before you can travel offshore. So what can help you stand out if you’ve never worked on a rig? Previous experience in construction, warehousing, hospitality, cleaning, farming, or other hands-on jobs can help demonstrate that you understand physical work, teamwork, and following safety instructions. Here’s the strategy I would use: choose two or three entry-level roles that match your skills, research the companies recruiting for them, and check their requirements before spending money on certificates. Then prepare your CV and start applying. Don’t rely on one application, and be careful of anyone promising you a guaranteed offshore job in exchange for a fee. Your first offshore job might be closer than you think — but you need the right plan. Tell me in the comments: Do you have any work experience, even outside the offshore industry? Follow this page, comment “OFFSHORE,” and check the link in my bio for our step-by-step guide to getting started with your offshore career.
