As the father of an airline pilot this scares the hell out of me. Just horrible listening to the woman pilot on the radio. I feel so bad for the families but especially hers hearing the fear in her voice and last words. prayers for all the families

40 years in aviation here… So…here’s my opinion on what MAY have happened. Either A: during the climb to 370, the stabilizers somehow sheered off because the turbulence was so bad. But that doesn’t just happen as all aircraft are put through rigorous tests well beyond what the airframe will ever experience in even the most torrential conditions. What I really think may have happened is B: she mentioned they were dealing with icing. She mentions -47C which is cold but nothing out of the norm for FL370. Then she asks for a climb to FL370. I think during that climb, they picked up a lot more ice as she mentions precipitation. Then they start the rapid descent. I think they may have had a lot more ice than they realized and anti-ice wasn’t keeping up. Adding more precipitation to that plus an even colder temperature climbing up to 370 may have stalled the airplane. The rapid loss of altitude occurred quick. The extreme G forces ripped off their stabilizers, and there was absolutely no way they could recover. These poor people were doomed. Mind you I’m not speculating, I’m not saying this is what happened. It could be something totally different. But I’m pretty good with this stuff. Remember this comment for later on when the final NTSB report comes out.

Agree we were in Lake Worth driving home out west. I think people don’t understand why there is no plane there so they think something else. They don’t realize how fast it was going and that the plane is gone due to that. RIP
