FOLLOW FOR MORE UPDATES:A Chicago tenant says he experienced a terrifying ordeal after waking up around 3 a.m. to find rats biting his face inside his apartment. Herivierto Hernandez, who lives in the Rogers Park neighborhood, said he has been reporting a rat infestation in his building for months before the alleged attack. According to Hernandez, he woke up feeling something on his face and quickly pushed the animals away. Photos shared by the All Chicago Tenant Alliance appear to show swelling around one of Hernandez’s eyes along with bite marks on his forehead. He said he later received medical treatment, including antibiotics and a rabies vaccination, and claims one of his eyes is still irritated. Hernandez says the rodent problem has become unbearable, alleging rats regularly climb onto beds and kitchen tables and leave droppings throughout the apartment. He is now seeking compensation. The tenant is also a member of Fuerzas Activas de la Damen (FAD), a tenant union involved in an ongoing dispute with the property’s owners over rent increases and eviction proceedings. The organization recently highlighted Hernandez’s experience, saying no resident should have to fear being bitten by rats while sleeping. The building’s management, ARK Management, said it takes tenant health and safety concerns seriously. The company stated Hernandez is currently involved in eviction proceedings over unpaid rent and said it has offered to move him into a renovated apartment within the building at no cost, but claims he declined those offers. ARK Management also said it has invested more than $1.5 million in renovations and improvements to the property. The company disputes many of the allegations, adding that communication has been complicated because some maintenance requests and negotiations have been handled through a tenant union and its attorney rather than directly with management. #fyp #viral

A Florida man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he intentionally drove his SUV toward an 11-year-old riding an e-bike, struck him, and then destroyed the child’s cellphone during the confrontation. Gregory Hoole, 44, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, child abuse, and criminal mischief following the incident in Windermere, Florida. According to investigators, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a crash on Wednesday afternoon. The 11-year-old told deputies that Hoole allegedly ran a stop sign, drove into the opposite lane, and headed directly toward him. The child said he managed to jump into the grass to avoid a more serious impact, but the SUV struck his leg and his e-bike. After the collision, the boy began recording the encounter on his iPhone and told Hoole he planned to call police. Investigators say Hoole then slapped the boy’s arm, grabbed the phone, and smashed it on the ground before leaving the scene. Authorities say Hoole later called 911 himself, claiming the boy and two other juveniles had been harassing his family. He told deputies the children had repeatedly rung his doorbell and ran away, frightening those inside the home. Doorbell camera footage reportedly showed a child matching the victim’s description approaching the residence before leaving on an e-bike. Hoole admitted he drove over to confront the children after seeing them nearby, according to police. Investigators say the confrontation became heated, with the children allegedly yelling profanities before Hoole took and broke the boy’s phone. Police also reviewed surveillance footage from a nearby home, which they say captured the incident and showed Hoole driving toward the child before stopping abruptly. He was later taken into custody and booked into the Orange County Jail. The boy’s parents told investigators their son and Hoole had previous issues stemming from a Fourth of July fireworks incident. Hoole’s attorney has disputed the allegations, arguing the charges present a misleading version of events and noting there was reportedly no visible damage to either the SUV or the e-bike. A judge set Hoole’s bond at $7,650 and ordered him to avoid the intersection where the incident occurred and have no contact with the child or the child’s family. As of Friday, he was no longer listed in the Orange County Jail’s online records, and a future court date had not yet been announced.#fyp #viral
