in my experience lots of gay men resent women for getting male attention they wish they had, and for what they percieve as having more/easier access to male attention than they do, having a larger/easier pool of male attention to draw from. they wish more men were gay and they take it out on women. I'm so glad you defended your friend bc too many pressure us to laugh it off or take it as a joke when a gay man is rude asf to us, especially if they're interested in him!
