🇦🇺 New IGADF report on SAS command culture. It largely regurgitates Brereton, points harder at officers and SOCAUST, and still leaves successive Chiefs of Army, CJOPS and CDF unresolved. In late 2015, with Campbell already Chief of Army, SOCAUST Sengelman called about 200 SAS operators in and invited them to write to him about unacceptable behaviour. Roughly 209 letters came back. None contained criminal allegations. What they contained was the culture issues already known higher up: alcohol, drugs, bullying. Those letters, and the Crompvoets work, went to Campbell. Campbell later became CDF and managed the response. Signs of decline were visible to higher headquarters. Data spikes. Rumours. No effective action. Ben Roberts-Smith faces 5 murder charges. Oliver Schulz is the first Australian soldier charged with a war crime under Australian law. His defence is superior orders. The report that just dropped still won’t follow the chain all the way up.
