@lostmexicanamerica: In 1842, Governor Juan Alvarado granted 17,761 acres to Ygnacio Martinez. The land was called Rancho El Pinole, in what is now Contra Costa County, California. He died in 1848. His heirs filed with the U.S. Land Commission in 1852. The patent did not come until 1868. The city of Martinez bears his name today. #LostMexicanAmerica #CaliforniaHistory #LandGrants #Californios #MexicanAmericanHistory
