Hi, not here to correct you. But it’s not ice. Mach tuck is an aerodynamic phenomenon that occurs when an aircraft approaches or exceeds the speed of sound. As airflow over the wings changes, the aircraft's centre of pressure shifts rearward, creating a nose down pitching force. So this can cause the aircraft to suddenly pitch downward, making it difficult for the pilot to maintain altitude. Mach tuck is one of the reasons high-speed aircraft are designed with features such as swept wings and stabilizing tail surfaces. 😁

We see horrific tragedies all the time. This is one that feels different and is heavy. I feel so much sadness for them and the families that will hear and see all of it. 😭😭

I’ve looked up Mach Tuck 10 times and I still don’t know what the heck happened. Ice, turbulence and traveling to fast is all I can comprehend.

When planes make suspicious noises or we experience turbulence I used to comfort myself my telling myself “it’s fine. planes don’t just fall out of the sky. we’re fine.” I fear this tactic will not work for me in the future.

It’s a possibility but it’s extremely rare because planes almost always avoid even being caught into a storm like that. How they ended up in that situation is still being investigated. But I know charter flights are more common to end up in bad flight zones because they don’t get the same amount of weather monitoring as a commercial flight does sometimes
