LA Metro's East San Fernando Valley line is real money now. The construction contract with San Fernando Transit Constructors, the Skanska and Stacy and Witbeck joint venture building it, now totals $2.43 billion after the Metro board approved a $1.99 billion amendment, and the full project budget sits at just under $4 billion. The line runs 6.7 miles down the middle of Van Nuys Boulevard with 11 stations, from the G Line in Van Nuys to San Fernando Road in Pacoima. Metro has noted that the last time a train ran down Van Nuys Boulevard was 1952, when the Pacific Electric San Fernando Valley Line rolled for the final time. ——— Why It Matters 🚊 The San Fernando Valley's first light rail line: 6.7 miles, 11 stations, at street level 🚏 Stops at Van Nuys G Line, Victory, Vanowen, Sherman Way, Van Nuys Metrolink, Roscoe, Nordhoff, Woodman, Arleta, Laurel Canyon and San Fernando 💵 $893 million from the federal government, $1.02 billion from Measure M, plus state and county funds 📅 Major construction 2026 to 2031, with revenue service targeted for early 2032 ——— The Details 📍 Van Nuys Blvd, from the G Line station to San Fernando Rd 🗓️ Construction 2026 to 2031. Opening targeted for early 2032 🚉 Trains every 7 to 10 minutes at peak, per Metro ——— 💡 Insider move: this is the 6.7-mile first phase only. The 2.5-mile light rail extension north to the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink station is off the table for now: in December 2025 the Metro board chose a new Pacoima Metrolink station and mobility hub instead, so if you are betting on a Sylmar light rail stop, do not. If you live or work on the corridor, Metro says construction notices go door to door at least 72 hours ahead, and it runs a Business Interruption Fund and an Eat Shop Play program for businesses along Van Nuys Boulevard during the build. Saved you a Google search. — LA Today #LAMetro #SanFernandoValley #VanNuys #latoday ——— Would a train down Van Nuys Boulevard change how you get around the Valley❓
