Mansplaining isn’t just guys explaining ANYTHING, it’s only when guys do it because they don’t think the woman is smart enough to understand

Mansplaining is when an average man explains a concept to me that I have a degree in because he assumes he still knows it better even though I’m the one with the education.

Mansplaining isn’t just a man explaining. It’s a man condescendingly, or patronizingly explaining something to a woman assuming they have less knowledge or lower intelligence because of their gender.

it would still be annoying but the fact we have a name for it when men do it just shows how often it happens and how often men look down at a woman bc the fact you had to say "doing the same thing wirh the same tone of voice and the same innocent assumption" just shows how often that SPECIFIC situation takes place while it rarely happens for women

You see, we don't do that. We explain when someone asks.

I’ve never had a woman try to explain a concept to me like it’s something I couldn’t possibly know. It’s always been presented as “in my experience” or “did you know?” whereas men assume they’re telling you brand new information.

No, it’s not the same: men assume that a woman doesn’t know a very basic thing and start to explain it without asking, it’s actually pretty annoying

Because men do it so commonly, and it’s about large numbers of men assuming women don’t know because we’re women.

because women don't explain things without someone asking them to
cuz they read the atmosphere better

It’s more so mansplanning when the guy is explaining super simple things to a girl because they assume their to dumb. But if their genuinely explaining something to educate someone I wouldn’t call that mansplanning

if the woman did it in a condescending way we'd be annoyed at them too, but it doesnt happen as often

Woman to woman: “you know X?” “Mm no i dont think i do” “oh okay so basically!”…. Mansplaining: *woman explaining perfectly fine, potentially just less detailed…guy cuts her off and begins explaining like she’s a toddler and has no idea what she’s on about*

as an autistic woman, I observed that it's the tone. I explain things the same as males do which people perceive as patronising.

Men explaining things to me that I have asked about/ told him I don’t understand etc. is not mansplaining, it’s educating. Men explaining things that I have not asked about and am already doing or very well versed in, is mansplaining. Only a certain type of man does this and it is usually routed in sexism because he “believes” I could never know how to do anything as well as a man, even if it’s a subject I know much more about. I personally have never had a woman “mansplain” anything to me.

Because more often than not when the term manspainong is applied it’s because the explanation from the man is based upon the assumption she doesn’t know BECAUSE she’s a woman. Another woman won’t make that same assumption

The amount of times a woman didnt clock herself and explained something to me I already knew I can count on one hand in my lifetime. There are men I know who do that at least five times every time I meet them.
