I consider the self loathing different. elain dosent want to be fae but thats all we really know since we don't have her pov. azriel dislikes his violent nature, acknowledges it in multiple ways, and is even shown trying to do better. tbh im also of the mind that if they are going to grow together and overcome there issues the introduction of their relationship should have looked a lot different. as for the light and dark, in this book it is only really light instead of balance since the shadows dont like being in the room with her.as in decanter get close to her without the dark disappearing instead of the harmony of the two. yes it has been light in dark in past books but now its not as consistent anymore. it also looks like the "light" might be leaning towards starlight expecially with the significance of Bryce. it felt like sjm really wanted us to remember that.
