How do you do that?
The U.S. Air Force is mourning the death of Airman 1st Class Aldo Ortiz Perez, who was fatally shot inside a dormitory at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana. Ortiz Perez was assigned to the 341st Missile Security Forces Squadron, a unit responsible for protecting personnel and critical nuclear missile operations at the installation. Another Airman assigned to the same squadron, Airman 1st Class Giovanni Salvatore Molinaro, 25, has been charged with negligent homicide in connection with his death. WHAT ALLEGEDLY HAPPENED? According to court documents described in local reporting, the shooting occurred on Sunday, November 1, 2026. Molinaro reportedly contacted emergency dispatchers and told authorities he had accidentally shot another Airman. Investigators allege that Molinaro had been handling a firearm he believed was unloaded when it discharged. Authorities recovered a Glock 43 9mm handgun from the dormitory room. Emergency personnel responded and attempted lifesaving measures, but Ortiz Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. WHAT CHARGES DOES THE ACCUSED FACE? Molinaro faces a negligent homicide charge under Montana state law. According to court reporting, his bond was set at $500,000. A negligent homicide charge generally involves allegations that a person’s criminally negligent conduct caused another person’s death. It does not automatically mean the shooting was intentional. WAS THE FIREARM ALLOWED IN THE DORMITORY? Malmstrom Air Force Base prohibits storing personally owned firearms inside its dormitories. However, authorities have not publicly established whether the handgun involved was personally owned or whether additional weapons-policy violations occurred. WHO IS INVESTIGATING? The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office and the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing. IMPORTANT: Molinaro has been charged but has not been convicted. The allegations must still be proven in court. The death of A1C Aldo Ortiz Perez is a tragic loss for his family, fellow Airmen and the Malmstrom military community. 🇺🇸 Rest in peace, Airman 1st Class Aldo Ortiz Perez. #USAirForce #MalmstromAFB #AldoOrtizPerez #GiovanniMolinaro
