TWO VENIN IN NIGHTMARES: @Violet’s Apothecary SIPHONS 101/HOW NAOLIN SAVED BRENNAN: @Violet’s Apothecary I think Berwyn, the Sage that’s in most of the nightmares, is actually Naolin. He’s been going after Xaden so intently because he wants revenge for Fen Riorson, Xaden’s dad, killing Brennan and forcing him to turn venin to save him. Which made him lose everything: his love, his dragon (Tairn), his soul, his LIFE. And Naolin turning for love and then getting that love taken away from him, feeling abandoned, is why he is so set on Xaden when the venin are mostly focused on Violet and Andarna. It’s why Naolin/Berwyn made Xaden turn for the same reason he did: for LOVE! It’s revenge. It’s also why Berwyn goes after Sgaeyl at the end of Onyx Storm, to get back at Tarin who he thinks abandoned him after he turned venin, whereas Xaden got to stay with Sgaeyl, with his love Violet, got to keep his life, and even became DUKE of Tyrrendor after, which made him even MORE angry. And then Naolin turning to save Brennan (as a siphon he could feel the power in the ground much easier) he accidentally made Brennan like a human wyvern. The “runed-shaped scar” on Brennan’s hand/palm is like the runed stones inside wyverns. We don’t know Marbh’s full name, even after Threshing Day (which I think was intentional by Rebecca Yarros), and in Irish and Scottish myth/folklore, Sluagh na Marbh were known as the “Host of the Dead” or “ARMY of the Dead” which would fit for an army of venin and wyvern! And the Sluagh are described very similar to wyverns, even having the same gray color and flight! Being under the wards doesn’t kill Brennan like it does normal wyverns bc he’s still connected to his dragon, still connected to the same magic that powers the wards, which is why they don’t affect him as a human wyvern! And why he can still use his signet under the wards, exactly like Xaden can still use his shadows and inntinnsic signets under the wards bc he’s still connected to Sgaeyl. #FourthWing #IronFlame #OnyxStorm #empyreanseries #rebeccayarros

this connects pretty well. it's a solid explanation. I believe naolin turned to save Brennan. I feel like Brennan may have tried to follow naolin down the same path but it didn't work for him and that's why he has the rune on his palm because maybe the bracelet asher gave him was a protection against pulling from the earth. and the rune was left on his palm because that's how you draw from the earth by placing your palm to the earth

That makes me think that Violet will be able to manipulate her pure power into whatever signet she needs it to be. If siphons can mimic signets because they are redistributing power than she would be able to because she is pure power that’s only formed as lightning

I got a theory, I think noalin created a rune to save Brennan syphoning his power into the rune, hence brennans rune scar on his hand, almost like the marked ones.
