"Everyday" is a hit song by veteran Nigerian artist 9ice (born Alexander Abolore Adegbola Akande), released on December 7, 2011, as one of the standout tracks on his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Bashorun Gaa. Production & Collaboration The song was produced by the legendary Nigerian hitmaker TY-Mix. Known for his smooth, instrumentation-heavy beats, TY-Mix provided a soulful, mid-tempo Afrobeats backdrop that perfectly complemented 9ice’s unique, gritty vocal delivery and traditional Yoruba sensibilities. Themes & Lyrical Content "Everyday" is primarily an enduring love ballad and marriage vow wrapped in cultural metaphors. • The Message: 9ice sings about a commitment that will never fade, promising loyalty through sickness, health, poverty, or wealth ("from January to December"). • Cultural Metaphors: He employs deep Yoruba proverbs, notably the phrase "ekuro lala baku ewa," which translates to the idea that the palm nut and the beauty of the palm fruit are inseparable until death—signifying an unbreakable bond. • Nostalgia & Struggle: The song is also semi-autobiographical. 9ice references his past financial struggles before his 2008 breakout fame with "Gongo Aso," reminiscing about his early days working at the Alade Market in Lagos. Music Video & Impact The official music video, directed by Uben and released in late December 2011, showcased a luxurious, romance-filled lifestyle. Filmed across scenic locations including boats, beaches, and upscale parties, it visually reinforced the song’s themes of celebrating love after overcoming hardships. "Everyday" remains celebrated as one of 9ice's finest love songs, highlighting his transition from aggressive street-hop to mature, reflective storytelling. - @olatunji.adewale19
