A toddler’s hand was caught in a wolf’s mouth at Hersheypark in Pennsylvania after the child slipped into a restricted area, with authorities saying the parents were allegedly distracted by their phones. The 17-month-old managed to squeeze through a small gap in a wooden barrier near the wolf exhibit on Saturday, according to the Derry Township Police Department. The child’s hand was injured after reaching through the metal fencing. Police said one of the wolves instinctively grabbed the toddler’s hand, though the animal did not bite. Several bystanders quickly intervened and pulled the child to safety. The parents were reportedly unaware of the incident until a commotion erupted nearby. Carrie B. Sortor, 43, and Stephen J. B. Wilson, 61, of Lititz, have been charged with one count each of misdemeanor child endangerment. Police said the couple had walked about 25 to 30 feet away from the toddler to a bench, seemingly focused on their cellphones. Hersheypark, which is about 100 miles west of Philadelphia, includes ZooAmerica, an 11-acre wildlife park home to more than 200 animals, including three gray wolves. Zoo officials noted that the wolves can be difficult to spot, sometimes blending in with rocks. ZooAmerica emphasized that the wolf’s reaction was natural behavior, not aggression. The child never entered the wolf’s enclosure, and injuries were described as minor. The zoo reminded visitors that children should always be closely supervised and that barriers and signage are in place to protect guests. The wolf pack at the park includes a male named Twister and two sisters, Hazel and Freya, who are all naturally carnivorous, feeding on deer, elk, bison, moose, and smaller animals like rabbits and beavers.#fyp #vira
