Kenya 🇰🇪 run by a cartel? My assessment after years in Kenya as foreign investor & businessman: A COUNTRY IS NOT FREE JUST BECAUSE THE PEOPLE EXPLOITING IT CARRY THE SAME PASSPORT. When I call Kenya’s leadership a “colonial cartel”, I’m describing a system of power, not somebody’s skin color. Colonialism means domination by an outside power. Its extractive model treats people, land and resources as things to control. My argument is that a home-grown elite can reproduce that relationship with its own citizens. Being born in a country does not make exploiting its people less of a betrayal. A cartel involves collusion to protect shared interests and restrict competition. In politics, the pattern I’m talking about is connections over merit, favours over fairness and protection for insiders. Local faces. Colonial habits. Look at the debt. Treasury’s June figures: 2012: KSh1.62 TRILLION. 2013: KSh1.89 TRILLION. 2022: KSh8.63 TRILLION. 2026: KSh13.01 TRILLION, provisional. About KSh4.38 trillion more in four years. A 51% increase. Eight times the nominal debt in fourteen years. The June 2026 total included KSh7.33 trillion in domestic debt and KSh5.68 trillion in external debt. Using KNBS’s population projection, that is roughly KSh240,000 of public debt per resident. Not a personal loan, but a public obligation. Now president ruto was deputy president from 2013 to 2022 and president from 2022. He did not arrive yesterday. He’s Kenya’s longest serving career politician btw. Debt is not automatically theft. But borrowing in the people’s name creates an obligation to show what their money bought. No government gets to plead poverty to lenders and then treat accountability at home as an inconvenience. Who received the contracts? Who owns those companies? What was delivered? What was recovered when money was misused? Why should taxpayers carry the bill while being told to stop asking questions? EACCKenya ‘s OWN 2024 survey found that 97.2% of respondents who experienced bribery did not report it. The commission cites fear of retaliation and lack of confidence in reporting systems. Don’t tell me the agencies exist. Tell me what happens to someone who reports a powerful person. On X, I see Kenyans afraid to put their faces to their criticism. Human Rights Watch has documented killings, abductions and attacks on government critics. Citizens should not need anonymity to ask where their taxes went. I also speak from my own experience. In my VeGrid dispute, I allege that my work, money and resources were exploited, obligations to me were not honored, and thomas ogutu threatened me. Related company records also name dennis volemi and charles kerich. I want their respective roles independently examined. This is personal. But it is bigger than what happened to me. Kenyans should not have to accept exploitation, then fear the consequences of asking for justice. I want Kenya to be prosperous, fair and governed by law. I want people paid for their work, patients treated, children educated and citizens free to criticise their president. I’m posting because I care about Kenyans. Criticising those who abuse power is not hatred of the country. THE COUNTRY BELONGS TO ITS PEOPLE. NOT TO THE PEOPLE RUNNING IT. Sources: National Treasury debt reports; KNBS; EACC National Ethics and Corruption Survey 2024; Human Rights Watch, World Report 2026; Merriam-Webster.
