This is going to be my first post. I am a wrestler at SJSU and I've been president now for 3 years. I've been inspired by one of my other wrestlers to do some posts this season just so I can really understand why I wrestle and what I want to get out of this season. I'm just gonna write a bunch here. I had my first match this season at chabot wrestling 157lbs. This was a really hard cut for me and I honestly don't think it was worth it, especially for a dual. Plus it wasn't my planned weight. Leading up to the dual I was cutting and dialed in for 165. However we could avoid another forfeit if I just moved one weight down. As team captain I want to lead by example and make that hard choice. The week of practice leading up to the dual I felt like SHIT. Those were the worst least productive practices I've ever had and i felt like a worse wrestler who didn't learn or remember a single move that week. I was literally banging my head into the mat and wall during practice because I felt so insignificant and incapable of wrestling how I know I could wrestle. In a go with one of my coaches I just broke down and started crying. Shit sucked. But I made the weight and I'm planning to go the same weight in a month at Bill Musick since I'll have a lot more time to lean out I'm looking forward to it. The actual match went okay I was moving bad and I felt rusty with my first match of the season. I have massive respect for my opponent since he wrestled a match right before me (it was a tri dual for chabot). So I'm sure bro was gassed. I also know him personally from training at UWC over the summer and we've almost met in other tournaments but the brackets never worked out where we match up. The match didn't go how I wanted it to go and I wasn't creating a lot of offense. I just didn't feel confident in my neutral. I also didn't feel nearly as strong as i thought i would having cut so much to 157. I ended up winning by pin but I felt very hollow. As a team we lost the dual 25-22. Pretty close and way better than last year where we lost 48-6. I'm honestly so proud of this team and I'm excited to see how we do this year come march. I need to keep working hard and I don't ever want to cut like that again. It took so much out of me and I wasn't actually going to wrestling practice to learn and wrestle but just to cut. I hate that mindset when I really have so much to learn and dual back in on going into this season.
