Dirty cabbage, but make it a whole comfort-food moment. 🥬🔥 Tender cabbage cooked down with seasoned ground turkey, smoky turkey sausage, colorful peppers, onions, fresh basil, and plenty of savory seasoning — then served with a warm piece of cornbread on the side. It’s hearty, colorful, full of flavor, and one of those meals that tastes even better the next day. Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 30–35 minutes Serves: 5–6 Ingredients * 1 large head green cabbage, chopped into bite-size pieces * 1 lb ground turkey * 12–14 oz smoked turkey sausage, sliced * 1 green bell pepper, chopped * 1 red bell pepper, chopped * 1 yellow bell pepper, chopped * 1 medium yellow onion, chopped * 3 garlic cloves, minced * 1 tbsp olive oil * 1 tbsp butter, optional * ½ cup chicken broth, plus more if needed * 1 tsp Lawry’s Seasoned Salt, then adjust to taste * ½ tsp garlic salt * 1 tsp garlic powder * 1 tsp onion powder * 1 tsp smoked paprika * ½ tsp black pepper * ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes, optional * ½ tsp Italian seasoning * ¼ cup fresh basil, chopped * 1 tbsp fresh parsley, optional Instructions 1. Brown the turkey sausage. Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add a small drizzle of olive oil and the sliced turkey sausage. Cook for about 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until the sausage develops some browned edges. Remove it from the pan and set aside. 2. Cook the ground turkey. Add the ground turkey to the same pan. Season lightly with Lawry’s, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper. Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking the turkey apart as it browns. 3. Add the vegetables. Add the onion, green pepper, red pepper, yellow pepper, and minced garlic. Cook for another 4–5 minutes, until the peppers begin to soften. 4. Add the cabbage. Add the chopped cabbage a few handfuls at a time. It may look like a lot at first, but it will cook down quickly. Pour in about ½ cup chicken broth and add the butter if using. 5. Season it up. Add the remaining Lawry’s, garlic salt, Italian seasoning, and optional crushed red pepper. Stir everything together. Cover and cook over medium-low heat for about 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally. 6. Bring the sausage back. Add the browned smoked turkey sausage back to the skillet. Cook uncovered for another 5–7 minutes so some of the liquid reduces and all those flavors come together. 7. Finish with fresh basil. Turn off the heat and stir in the chopped fresh basil. Taste before adding any extra salt since the Lawry’s, garlic salt, sausage, and broth all bring seasoning. Chef’s Tips Don’t cook the cabbage until it turns completely mushy. I’d leave just a little texture so the dish still has some bite. Browning the sausage first gives you those smoky caramelized bits in the pan, which adds a lot of flavor to the turkey and cabbage. If you want it a little more Southern-style and saucy, add another splash of chicken broth while the cabbage cooks. Easy Ingredient Swaps * Ground turkey → ground chicken * Turkey sausage → chicken sausage * Green cabbage → mix green and red cabbage * Fresh basil → parsley or thyme * Chicken broth → vegetable broth * Want more heat? → add Cajun seasoning or extra crushed red pepper #creatorsearchinsights #ideafood #Foodie #FoodTok #meals
