What would really help people is ending the fiscal drag and adjusting the student loans repayment threshold. People’s own money in their pockets is what’s going to make a difference. A clear economic growth strategy that invests in areas that create more jobs is going to make a difference. Any other change is merely cosmetic. £100 off energy bills and 12% on pickles or whatever is an absolute joke. It may help some people a little bit for a short period of time, but it’s not truly helping anyone to get out of the current mess we’re in. But the reverse in the ISAs is indeed a good one from this budget. At least this budget felt less harmful then the couple previous ones.

Why wouldn’t the government mandate that those can/jar companies freeze prices for at least one year after removing tax… just handing money over to Heinz and other food giants?

It’s great news. What’s not so good news is non isa savings now hit with a 44% tax rate. Not sure what to do? Maxed on Ida and SIPP. Gilts or GIA?

In my opinion and my friends finances bros too many bonuses, too few real reforms. The UK needs less short-term help and more investment, better jobs, lower taxes and stronger businesses.

That housing scheme is only benefitting property developers. No retailer is going to pass on savings when they have a a fiduciary duty to make the most profit for their shareholders. Unfortunately there is only a duty toward shareholders and no such duty exists for people and welfare for people. Everything they are doing is cosmetic. What will help is increasing the tax threshold to be in line with what it should be in today’s economy. Without it people will continue to get poorer and the economy will stay stagnant, as people won’t be spending.
