The point of discipline is to teach & your kids will learn a lot faster if you have these types of conversations following any consequences that you have to enforce. My goal isn’t to make my kids cry, but some consequences are upsetting to them and that’s okay! I care more about the person they’re becoming than making every second of their lives comfortable. But I also want them to understand that I do not take pelasure in giving consequences & need them to truly process what they did wrong and how they can change their behavior in the future. My kids are allowed to argue & debate with me (in a respectful way), but they also know that the second they scream at me or my husband, they no longer have any chance of getting what they wanted. This is real gentle parenting. Consistent boundaries enforced with love & connection, not the permissive BS everyone thinks is GP.
