I let AI run my YouTube channel and views dropped to about 1,000. When I wrote the videos myself, they did 13,000 to 20,000. I don't believe AI can handle marketing work alone, and this is why. When I let my skill do its work without adding my taste for even five to ten minutes, the output was really bad. I assumed it had learned from my recent videos. It hadn't. The pattern shows up everywhere we use AI. Our client ad creative can't run on AI alone. Our AEO and SEO content still needs an editor. On X, Max was using the X skill he forked off of mine, and the reach went down. Then he started writing in his own voice again, and the reach came right back. My cross-posted videos do roughly 1,000 views on autopilot and 15,000 to 20,000 when I write them, which is strong for B2B. So you still need a human in the loop. If someone tells you AI has already figured it all out, you should probably run in a different direction. Neil Patel made a good point on the episode: a year ago I was much more extreme about AI. I kept using it, adapted, and figured out where it's weak and where it's strong. That's what you want in a marketer too. Not someone who drinks the Kool-Aid, but someone who adapts to what actually gets results. My process now: AI does the first draft, research, variations and formatting. A person owns the angle, the hook and the final edit. Then I compare AI-only work against human-edited work on the same channel and let the numbers decide. I revisit it every few months, because the weak spots keep moving. Why does AI-only content underperform? Usually the writing isn't bad. It's average. It sounds like everything else, and the algorithms reward the opposite. Your taste, stories and point of view are what AI can't fake yet, and they disappear the moment you step out. Test it on your own channel before you believe anyone. This clip is from Marketing School with Eric Siu and Neil Patel. Full episode is on the channel. Follow for more on AI, business and marketing, and tell me in the comments where AI-only content has worked or failed for you.
