Actually, you absolutely CAN drill a hole through 30 feet of solid steel. It’s called gun drilling or deep-hole drilling, and specialized machines do exactly that. It’s an extremely precise machining process. The reason manufacturers use rotary piercing and rolling to produce steel tubing isn’t because drilling is impossible. It’s because drilling would be extraordinarily expensive, time-consuming, and waste an enormous amount of material. It’s a question of manufacturing economics, not technological capability.

It's centrifugal force. The iron is so hot it's almost liquid spin it fast it gets longer and the center moves out making it hollow.
