I feel like he’s only looking inside of a glass bubble that doesn’t even expand past London. I don’t know anyone outside of London who thinks like this. There are PLENTY of 2-3 homes up north for under 200k btw. You don’t HAVE to buy a home in London.

I’ve never understood this. My friends who rent pay exactly the same amount each month as my mortgage payment, but after ten years I will own my house while they will own nothing. I get that renting lets you move around and isn’t tied to one place the people who make that point have lived in the same house their whole lives. Make it make sense. Its just to justify their choices.

A mortgage is debt, but what is renting? If you can't afford your rent, you get evicted. Either way, you need a roof over your head. At least with a mortgage, you're working towards owning your home rather than having a landlord who can suddenly decide to sell and tell you to move out. And let's stop telling people what to do with their money. If a council house works for you, go for it. If renting works for you, fine. If a mortgage works for you, do that. Let people live their lives!

You can't stop even if you rent. This is a lack of financial literacy. Sorry. Speak to financial advisors and brokers first. You will know what you can afford. I don't regret buying at all. Then you can pay off your mortgage early. That's the plan. I have friends under 40 that are already mortgage free. L&C are a free broker service. They will help.
