Moh Moh Lwin :
According to historical records, the Lanna Kingdom predates our Konbaung Dynasty. If you want to claim our Konbaung-era clothing as part of Lanna's traditional attire, then what did the people of Lanna actually wear before being influenced by Burmese culture during the Konbaung period? And what would Lanna people have worn if the Burmese during the Konbaung era had never reached the Lanna region in the first place?
From the perspective of Myanmar, the historical facts are clear: the Lanna Kingdom predates the Konbaung Dynasty by several centuries, and Lanna already had its own distinct traditional clothing, textiles, and cultural identity long before the Konbaung era.
We acknowledge that Myanmar and Lanna have shared historical and cultural connections, with influences flowing between the two regions over time. However, this does not mean that Myanmar's Konbaung-era traditional attire should simply be classified as Lanna clothing.
If the production claims to be inspired by Lanna culture, why does it incorporate clothing that closely resembles traditional Myanmar royal attire from the Konbaung period instead of focusing on Lanna's own historical costumes?
Rather than giving a general explanation that the production drew inspiration from various cultures, the team should provide clear and specific historical references. Which costumes belong to which region, which historical period, and which cultural heritage?
If you consider our Konbaung-era clothing to be part of Lanna's traditional heritage, then what did the people of Lanna wear before Burmese cultural influence reached the region? What would their traditional clothing have looked like if the Burmese had never arrived in Lanna?
We are not denying the historical and cultural connections between our regions. We are simply asking for the origins of Myanmar's cultural heritage to be accurately acknowledged and respected. Cultural exchange should never mean that the original identity and history of a culture become blurred or overlooked.
