Dangerous dogs aren’t taken seriously enough here. Theyre a huge problem in meter reading half the job is just looking for signs of dogs, and people think this behaviour is desirable so they encourage it on purpose then use the excuse of defending their home 😔 sorry you have to go through this

I’m a vet nurse and when my elderly dog and cat passed away in the same week I took 2 months off as I couldn’t face going back to a place where there were so many reminders of them. So sorry for your loss that must have been so traumatic for all of you :(

i was a pet cremator for years and during that time my soul cat got a rare form of lung cancer and i spent easily 30-50k treating him because i couldn't fathom the thought of letting him go. i woke up one morning and i just knew i had to let him go that day. because of him ive re enrolled into vet school. i am so very sorry for your loss

Delayed trauma response is very much a real thing. It’s a coping mechanism to survive that moment, except the numbness and autopilot take over like a false reality. It’s when your nervous system starts to switch back out of survival mode that everything comes crashing down in one moment. You forget and you look for them, you call them, you see the hair or the dog toy and your body just explodes with all of the pent up emotion it’s not been yet able to process. I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss what an absolute horrific experience for you all to have gone through. But until his last moments you were right by his side. You made the choice even in your grief stricken shook up state that was still best for him knowing what if any a future would look like with such significant damages and recovery for an already elderly dog who would also undoubtedly have traumas himself afterwards. The most selfless choices are always the hardest and you still chose him first over your own heart in the moments it mattered most. He knew love his whole life. Give yourself space to grieve, pet loss shouldn’t be taken lightly especially how much we now know about how much our pets truly impact our lives and mental wellbeing. Take care of yourself and be kind to yourself 🫶🏼❤️

Losing a pet is already so tragic, the added trauma of how horrific and unexpected the circumstances were would make this so much more difficult. I'm so sorry that this happened to you and your Chubby.

I went through a similar thing when my beautiful terrier puppy was dragged under a fence and mauled by a staffie many years ago. I’d come home from uni and couldn’t find him in the back yard anywhere, only to spot his little body in my neighbours yard from the back deck. I screamed so much my other neighbours came running. The neighbour who owned the staffie just handed me the bloodied body of my puppy and said I should have made sure the fence was secure, while I just stood there screaming. His dog was the one that had dug the hole to get to my puppy! I’ll never forget the grief I went through losing my pup like that. It has been 30 years and I still think about it.

I'm so incredibly sorry. That has to be so traumatic, especially to work on your own baby at your work. It's completely understandable to not be ok for quite a while after something like this. I'm still not fully over the loss of my horse from 4 years ago and I don't think that I ever truly will be. If you're able to access therapy, it may help you to process the grief and trauma. He had such a beautiful life with you and I truly believe that he knows that you love him and that you did the best thing for him. Sending love and healing ❤️‍🩹

was the neighbours dog loose? did the neighbours dog drag him from under your fence or was your dog loose and got into the neighbours yard. Horrible outcome regardless, i can imagine how you would have felt ❣️

What a horrible horrible thing to happen, I’m so sorry. I hope you found the owners of the dog that did this to your poor baby and are able to get some sort of compensation even though no compensation will fix this ☹️

As vet nurses we put a lot of pressure on ourselves when it comes to our own pets. Please remember that you are a human first and a nurse second- let your self feel the emotions, don’t push it down. We always feel like we should have done more/better for our own pets. It sounds like you gave him an amazing life and it was a horrible accident to have happened but you did all the right things ❤️take care of yourself

Delayed processing. That's really tough on your body, but you stayed strong. You're coping as well as can be expected. That was a piece of you that you lost, and it's an empty space that can't be filled. So, of course you're not going to cope well, but... you are coping, so don't be so hard on yourself. Losing a dog is not easy.

I am so sorry for your loss. I work in the pet loss space and people don’t realize just how real the grief of losing a pet is. You shouldn’t need to “cope better”, let yourself grieve. My condolences.
