@queen.728: A VIRAL EXCHANGE ATTRIBUTED TO IRANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER ABBAS ARAGHCHI IS GETTING A LOT OF ATTENTION: REPORTER: “Are you rebuilding nukes?” ARAGHCHI: “No, we are committed to peace.” REPORTER: “So you accept Trump’s request for inspection?” ARAGHCHI: “Sure — only if we can send our team to Israel to see if they have nukes. If Israel has them, then Iran should too.” There’s just one problem: I can’t find a reliable transcript, video or major news report confirming that Araghchi actually said those words. So the exchange should not be presented as an authentic quote. The underlying nuclear dispute, however, is very real. Iran is a member of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and is legally subject to IAEA safeguards. Araghchi has previously said Iran is prepared to accept extensive monitoring under certain conditions. Israel, by contrast, is not a party to the NPT and maintains a longstanding policy of nuclear ambiguity, neither officially confirming nor denying possession of nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, the IAEA says it has had almost no inspection access inside Iran for more than six months and recently referred Iran’s safeguards noncompliance to the UN Security Council. So the viral “7D chess” quote makes for a dramatic post — but until an authentic recording or transcript emerges, it shouldn’t be attributed to Araghchi as fact.
