@latenight.veteransshow: REMEMBERING SERGEANT MAJOR ALBERT COOPER, CGC Ulster Defence Regiment | Aged 42 Murdered on 2 November 1990 Sergeant Major Albert Cooper served part-time with the Ulster Defence Regiment while running his own garage in Cookstown, County Tyrone. He was among those who joined the regiment when it was first established. In 1988, he had already survived an attempt on his life. On 2 November 1990, tragedy struck when a vehicle brought to his garage for repairs contained a concealed explosive device. As Albert began working on the vehicle, the device detonated, killing him. Two people, including 19-year-old Geraldine Ferrity and James Duffin, were subsequently imprisoned for their involvement in his murder. Ferrity, who had been working as a student nurse, was later released under the provisions of the Good Friday Agreement. Albert was a devoted husband and father of three children. He is laid to rest in the cemetery at Kildress Parish Church in Cookstown, where his memory endures. Today, we remember a husband, a father, a local businessman and a member of the Ulster Defence Regiment whose life was taken far too soon. Our thoughts remain with his family, friends and all those who continue to remember him. Gone, but never forgotten. WE WILL REMEMBER THEM. #lestweforget #army #rip #veteran #soldier
