In the original script (not the novel), he’s alive. They even filmed Pingjun handing relief and they met there, Changxuan lost a leg but he’s alive. But they didn’t include it because at that era in real life, many people died, China doesn’t want to romanticize that era as “loving” bcs it was a time of hardship for their country, and so the ending didn’t pass the China’s censorship. Instead, they gave us an open ending. Kanya kanya na daw tayo imagine ng ending at move on. HAHAHAHA honestly in my head, Pingjun takes care of him just like how he took care of her when she was in a coma.
