@japdmedia26: Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 — A suspected home invader who reportedly suffered a gunshot wound during a terrifying attack on a wealthy family's home was questioned by police at a hospital but allowed to leave before investigators issued a warrant for his arrest. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Daijohn Richards, is accused of participating in an October 29 home invasion at the residence of MAC Group CEO David Morton in Toronto's upscale Bridle Path neighbourhood. According to investigators, three masked men armed with firearms and a hammer entered the property around 3:40 a.m. and demanded valuables. During the confrontation, Morton, his wife, and their two adult daughters were attacked. Three family members sustained gunshot wounds, while family members were also struck with a hammer, according to Morton's account. Investigators believe Richards was accidentally shøt in the right shoulder by one of his accomplices during the incident. He subsequently went to a hospital for treatment, where police questioned him. However, officers did not have sufficient evidence to arrest him at that time. Police later explained: “Recognizing a potential suspect and having enough evidence to arrest them are two different things” The investigation progressed, and Richards was identified publicly on October 31. A Canada-wide arrest warrant was issued, with charges including robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, and discharging a firearm with intent to wound. The two other suspects have not been publicly identified. Police consider all three armed and dangerous. Meanwhile, David Morton described the frightening experience in a statement: “It is difficult to put into words the trauma of experiencing something so horrific in the one place where everyone should feel safest: their own home,” “No family should ever have to experience this. People should be able to sleep peacefully in their homes without fear of armed individuals breaking in and threatening their lives.” Morton said his family's priority is recovering and getting through the ordeal together. Police are asking anyone with information about the suspects to come forward. Richards remains wanted, and the investigation is ongoing. #Toronto #Canada #DaijohnRichards #DavidMorton #japd
