Why couldn’t the pilot request a southerly turn and lower altitude to avoid the Super cell? Did the pilots know what could happen if they raised altitude to the Lear Jet during weather like this. Turbulence, Ice issues already. I’m not a pilot, but could the Air Traffic Controller have given the pilots a better route as they approached the super cell? As for the ATC, couldn’t he just bybass all the radio protocols and just tell the pilots make changes to avoid what could happen if they went higher since they had experienced 2 major issues already. Seems to much time wasted with the tail numbers. If there’s a “MAYDAY” I would think most pilots would stay off the radio frequency until the MAYDAY over? I’m not criticizing any actions, it’s clear the pilot had her hands full trying to hold on the jet while the co pilot was communicating to the ATC. Just wondering what the regular pilots in Florida would’ve done, I would think they probably would’ve landed somewhere and waited it out. It looks like the jet lost the top part of the tail which explains why it did what it did. Bless everyone on that aircraft.
