@wessnyderphotography: 11-1-26 | Shoreline update from Rodanthe, NC. After a summer without major storms or hurricane swells, this stretch of beach appeared to be rebuilding. But just a few weeks and two strong nor’easters later, the shoreline looks vulnerable again. I’ve filmed this shoreline by drone each year for the past six years and will share a video comparing the changes soon. There’s no easy fix, no simple solution, and plenty of blame to go around. But this place is beloved by millions, and no one is leaving anytime soon. People often point to the cost to taxpayers of maintaining the highway along this tiny strip of sand. But those costs are only part of the story. My understanding is that the whole Hatteras Island/Ocracoke area generates far more in tax revenue than the government spends maintaining that highway. It supports homes, businesses, and a tourism economy—and for many residents, it’s the only home they’ve ever known. Keeping that lifeline open means more than simply protecting a road. #wessnyderphotography #outerbanks #obxlife #hatterasisland #RodantheNC

My family always stayed in anchors away (the little yellow house) about 25 years ago. So sad to see it going under too. So many good memories 🥹
