If you know me well enough, you know I’m a warrior. I’ve always been the kind of person who refuses to stay down. No matter how hard life hits, I find a way to stand back up. But these past two years have broken me in ways I never thought possible. They’ve humbled me in ways no weight, no failure, and no physical challenge ever could. I went from putting up three plates on my compound lifts to struggling to breathe and spitting blood. From feeling invincible in my own body to struggling to maintain my balance. From pushing my physical limits to wondering whether my own nervous system was going to shut down on me. It’s terrifying when your body becomes a place you no longer recognize. When the room spins beneath your feet, your mind doesn’t feel like your own, and your cognitive abilities seem to decline without an explanation. And perhaps the hardest part hasn’t even been the physical battle. It’s been watching life continue while mine feels like it’s standing still. Losing friends. Losing family. Losing relationships. Slowly losing the identity I spent years building, while fighting an invisible illness that no doctor has been able to put a name to. I’ve heard the words: “We have nothing left in common.” “We love you, but we might only see you every few months.” “Everyone grows apart.” “Just stay positive.” “Stress less.” “It is what it is.” Words that might seem harmless to someone saying them, but cut differently when you’re already fighting a battle just to make it through the day. Imagine losing the body you built, the strength you worked years for, the independence you took for granted, and pieces of the person you once were — all while trying to explain an illness that nobody can see and few can understand. I’ve experienced loneliness in ways I never knew existed. I’ve questioned myself, my future, my identity, and sometimes the person staring back at me in the mirror. But let me make one thing clear. THIS IS NOT WHERE MY STORY ENDS. I don’t know how long this road will be. I don’t know what answers lie ahead. And I certainly don’t know what the finish line looks like. But I made myself a promise: I will not let this chapter define the rest of my life. The fire isn’t gone. Maybe it’s buried beneath exhaustion, pain, uncertainty, and everything I’ve lost. But it’s still there. I’m starting this journey as a fraction of the man I once was, with the intention of becoming someone greater than the man I ever imagined I could be. Not just physically. Mentally. Emotionally. Spiritually. This time, the battle isn’t against gravity, iron, or another person. It’s against everything trying to convince me that I’m finished. Follow my journey. Not just to witness the healing, but to witness what happens when a man who has lost almost everything decides he still has something left to fight for. This is my comeback. And this time, I’m rebuilding the man behind the muscles.
