Kind of feels like this guy forgot that Film critics pushed his earliest independent films and got his name out there when nobody really knew who he was outside of New Zealand. It was great critical reception and the way critics used word-of-mouth to push movies like Boy, Eagle vs Shark and What We Do in the Shadows that helped him get recognition and land gigs like the MCU and JoJo rabbit

His statement says way more about him than the film critic. I unfortunately had not seen any of these other films, except Thor, love and thunder.. in hindsight, that was a bad sign of the direction of his career

Honestly, I wasn’t interested in the trailers. It’s hit or miss with movies, and this one felt like a miss from the jump. Yea, he was way too bitter for that movie. Clearly he’s mad.

Preview Review :
There was a time where I would get really excited for a new film from him. Absolutely loved Jojo Rabbit and What We do in the Shadows. However, ever since Thor: Love and Thunder, he's just fallen flat every time. He's lost a lot of respect from me and probably many more people after saying this.

He’s not totally wrong, tbh. Every single YouTube film critic who gains any kind of notoriety oftentimes ends up trying to use that as a springboard into film. Identical thing happens in comic book criticism. Even Roger Ebert made a movie.

I honestly feel its mostly ego, cause if you have hit movies you would get alot of praise, but when the ego is not in check and you are still on the high of being the greatest and you make a flop, then you would put blame on critics saying they are bitter cause they fail as directors

It comes off as so bitter and distasteful. It’s one thing to disagree with critics, especially about your own art, but to outright stoop to insults and degrading is disappointing to say the least. It’s even wilder when in the beginning of the post he also claims to have no ever read the reviews..so he doesn’t even know what he’s complaining about

I think there should be some conversation about the qualifications of said film critics tho. They used to be journalists with degrees and years of film study, now some of them are just random people with a lot of followers. Let’s not put everyone in the same box.

I mean… as a woman in film, he’s not wrong. The critics are a bunch of old white dudes so whenever they give a film a low rating while the audience rates it high I know that’s the film for me. 😆
