For the past few weeks, my visits with Mum haven't quite looked like our usual visits. We've still shared plenty of hand-holding, cheeky chocolate and milkshake treats, and some of her favourite songs in communal areas, but today we were able to spend some time together in the privacy of her room. What a difference it made. We turned her music up loud and spent the visit singing, jiggling in our seats and enjoying some of her favourite tunes. This was the last song we played, Long Tall Sally, and you can see how much it ignited something in her. Music is sooo powerful! I miss so much about Mum before dementia... our adventures, our naughty antics, our long chats, and having her wise advice whenever I needed it. But days like today remind me that although things have changed, we can still find ways to connect and share happy moments together. And for that, I am incredibly grateful. ❤️ A gentle reminder to anyone visiting a loved one in care: if you're finding communal areas a little busy or distracting, it's always worth having a chat with the care team about alternative spaces for visits. Sometimes a small change in environment can make a big difference #Caregiver #Dementia #caregiver #alzheimer #rocknroll @Alzheimer’s Research UK
