I went to the grocery store for bread and somehow became a suspect in my neighbor’s missing chair investigation. This woman stopped me next to the bananas and said, “You know exactly what you did.” Obviously I immediately started thinking about every bad decision I’ve made since 2017. Then she showed me a blurry security camera screenshot. It was a person carrying a plastic garden chair. Could’ve been me. Could’ve been somebody’s uncle. The image had approximately six pixels. I told her I didn’t live in her building. She said, “That’s exactly what someone from apartment 14 would say.” At this point I should’ve walked away, but I needed to know what apartment 14 had done. Apparently they borrowed the chair in June for a barbecue and returned a DIFFERENT chair in September. Same color, different emotional significance. Her husband proposed while she was sitting in the original chair. Honestly, that detail got me invested. So now we’re standing beside the bananas comparing chair legs on her phone while my frozen pizza slowly returns to room temperature. Then her husband called. He had the chair. He’d taken it fishing. She stared at the phone, looked at me, and said, “Well, you still look like you know something.” Anyway, I got home without bread, which was the only reason I left the house. My pizza was warm, I knew three people’s apartment numbers, and apparently I’m attending a residents’ meeting on Thursday. I don’t even live there. 😭 #storytime #randomstory #plottwist #relatable #fyp
