@japdmedia26: Michigan — A former campaign worker for Democratic politician Abdul El-Sayed is among 12 people federally indicted in an expanding investigation into alleged threats and intimidation targeting Michigan's Jewish community and University of Michigan officials. Mariam Muhammed Odeh, 24, of Dearborn, was among eight people initially indicted in June 2026. Federal prosecutors allege that the group organized threatening activities intended to pressure the University of Michigan into ending its connections with Israel. According to The Detroit News, Odeh previously worked as an hourly employee on El-Sayed's Michigan Senate campaign for approximately two weeks. Campaign spokesperson Roxie Richner confirmed that Odeh earned nearly $750 before leaving the position on April 15. Prosecutors allege that members of the group vandalized university officials' homes, placed fake body displays on lawns and spray-painted anti-Israel messages on properties. Investigators also allege that windows were broken and containers filled with harmful chemicals were thrown into family homes. The group allegedly shared images of some incidents online with warnings, including “you cannot hide.” Odeh is also accused of participating in a June 2024 incident involving a Rolls Royce Solutions America building in Michigan. Prosecutors allege that participants padlocked the doors and spray-painted messages including “FREE PALESTINE” and “LONG LIVE THE INTIFADA.” The investigation expanded on October 30, when federal prosecutors announced charges against four additional individuals, bringing the total number of indicted defendants to 12. Two of the newly charged individuals were arrested, while two others remained at large. Odeh faces one count of conspiracy to transmit threats through interstate and foreign commerce. The charge carries a potential maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted. Neither El-Sayed's campaign nor Odeh's attorneys responded to the New York Post's requests for comment before publication. Important: An indictment is not proof of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. MariamOdeh #AbdulElSayed #Michigan #USA #japd
