@news.studio2: Jerry Koosman, the Pitcher in One of Baseball’s Most Iconic Images, D*es at 83 Jerry Koosman, a key part of the “Miracle Mets” who won the 1969 World Series, has d*ed. He was 83. The New York Mets announced that Koosman d*ed in Osceola, Wisconsin, on Sunday, Nov. 1, “after battling multiple illnesses.” Team historian Jay Horwitz said he was surrounded by his family. He was a father of three. “The 1969 Mets had a multitude of heroes,” Horwitz wrote, “but no one was bigger than Jerry Koosman.” The Mets lost Game 1 of that World Series. Koosman won Game 2. Then, on Oct. 16, 1969, he threw a complete-game five-hitter against Baltimore in Game 5. It was his second win of the series, and it clinched the title. After the final out, Koosman leaped into the arms of catcher Jerry Grote. MLB says the image “remains one of the most iconic images in baseball history.” Koosman spent his first 12 seasons with the Mets. He later played for the Twins, White Sox, and Phillies. He won 222 games in a 19-year career. In 2021, the Mets retired his No. 36 jersey. The team shared a short message: “We send our thoughts and prayers to his family.” What is your favorite moment from the 1969 Mets? #jerrykoosman #miraclemets #new #mets #MLB
