People keep bringing up how young she was. For the record Yes, Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras was 20 years old, but she was a qualified co-pilot. Her age doesn't negate her qualification. I'm so proud of that young lady. Imagine descending at 20,000 feet per minute. Think about what the human body could potentially experience at that rate of descent, especially if cabin pressure is changing rapidly. Your ears pop during a normal flight, now imagine the possibility of severe ear pain, a ruptured eardrum, or even oxygen deprivation if the cabin loses pressure at that altitude. Now add the sheer terror of knowing that aircraft is going down; and yet, through all of that, she still had enough wherewithal to communicate what was happening. I cannot imagine the fear that must have gripped her in those final moments.I don't know that young lady, but I am so proud of her, and I sincerely hope her family is proud of her too. She was only 20 years old, facing something most of us couldn't even begin to comprehend, and she continued doing her job until the very end. May she rest in peace🫶🏾

She screams because at that exact moment they break through the clouds and she can finally see how close the ground is and how fast it's coming, followed by her panicking telling him to look outside at how low they are, now below the clouds making the ground visible to them, followed by her saying they're out of time right at impact. Her mind was in fight or flight mode calculating any last ditch efforts possible to survive while she's experiencing the full realization of impending end of life, followed by the final acceptance that they're "out of time." 😔

Her screaming is because when descending at 20,000+ feet per minute the plane’s depressurization system can’t keep up with the rapid descent and can cause ruptured ear drums very painful

I wonder if she said “look outside Jeff, look outside” because the main pilot basically accepted it and closed his eyes, and wasn’t paying attention to civilians

“look outside!” was most likely (my guess) when they got below the overcast conditions and realized how quickly the ground was coming towards them. this is one of the worst atc calls i’ve ever heard

Her 2nd to last transmission, out of breath, "descending 22,000 fpm and we are banking 60 degrees" sounded so calm. You could almost hear acceptance in her voice. Her brain was processing fight or flight and she was doing everything she could to try and stay alive as seconds flashed by. 😭

I hate the people saying she wasn’t qualified. She was and she was the copilot. And you can’t hear the pilot speaking because it’s her job to relay the information. Which she did calmly up until the end when they probably went through the clouds and could see how close they were and said we are out of time. Which anyone would panic then.
