Eggs are 50 cents. Bacon a dollar a slice. Coffee 35 cents. Labour $18 an hour server. Cook $25. Cost of meal two eggs bacon and toast. $3.50. Labour $8. So 11.50 before rent and other equals $25 breakfast in Canada.

I work in a breakfast/lunch place. No liquor, scratch made, quality food, seen growth year-over-year for over 12 years. Open year round in a tourist town! We have summer regulars who plan their vacation time around being able to eat at this place. I make really good money, almost never deal with dissatisfied customers, and I’m out in time to go to the beach before dinner every single shift all summer long. Love. It.

I will agree. there is a woman i worked for in Colorado that ran a coffee shop/diner that was open 7-4. served breakfast and lunch on top of having a legit Italian expresso machine and the cherry on top was that she was a world class baker, so the most excellent sweet and savory croissants and sweet treats. she was printing money. it was all ran buy 1 staff member most the time, 2 members perhaps 25% of the time. God she figured it out. Lynn's whistle stop in Morrison Colorado if youre ever in the area. best cinnamon rolls, raspberry croissants and breakfast burritos with homemade green chillie you'll ever have.

Except most of these places sell the cheapest, nastiest, greasiest food. My family has been in the breakfast lunch diner business for almost 50 years. Nobody’s getting rich. But we also have better quality
