if you're an actor with a prop, you shouldn't blame techies for losing it. if you're a props master, you should also know where everything is, it's literally ur job (no shade to anyone, i'm a theater kid/actor and my sister and i have both been tech/props, so i know both sides)

as costume crew I HATE having to tell people not to eat in their costumes! like I get youre hungry but I don't want either of us to get yelled at by the stage manager!

i was so good at memorizing things that like a week into my rehearsals my director would just take my script away because she knew i didnt need it

I've been both a cast member and a techie and I firmly believe that every theater kid should be both at least once in their time in theater

Also if you paraphrase a word or two here or there, thats one thing. If the script is unrecognizable and your scene partners aren’t getting any of their cue lines, what are you doing. Also, if you bring a prop onstage and I bring it offstage, it is NOT my responsibility to make sure you have it before you go onstage.

I was double cast with a girl in Our Town as Emily. Emily is a HUGE role. Somehow she managed never going through act 2 off script until near final rehearsal 🤦... I knew she didn't know the lines and this was going to be something to see... I played a dead person when not Emily. I sat there as this girl embarrassed herself on an amazing level 😂🤣 Ooh, that was not a happy director...

Lead role or not you should have your lines memorized by off book day

i had techies who would hide props or just take them to play with and wouldn't give them back or they would break them then they would say oh well not my problem

I have never in my life been off book on off book day. not from a lack of trying. it wasn’t how I learned. I needed to work through my blocking and call "line" a bunch that day and then I knew it. folks with different learning styles deserve the grace you want when things are difficult. I do agree that everyone should be practicing at home. even if you're not struggling.

I was one of the stage managers for our fall play and our director was an actor, never once a techie. We had repeatedly told actors to leave x, y and z on the stage and run crew will put them away/reset stage because that is our job. I gathered the actors from that scene and told them to leave the stage as is when they exit and run crew will put set pieces back in place etc. My director pulled me aside that night (tech week btw) and told me if I could not handle responsibility nicely I wouldn’t have any. An actor said I was “aggressive and rude” when I told them not to move a heavy table or take mountain dew (bright green) off in costumes.

Like I say practice your lines almost everyday once you get your script YOU SHOULD HAVE IT PRETTY MUCH MEMORIZED BY OFF BOOK DAY like please it’s your responsibility you wanted to do acting

Espically the first one!! As a crew member I’ve been shoved by the cast when I’ve been putting the set on stage, like I’m helping why are you shoving me??

And also if you are a lead and have studied your lines and get off book day but forgot a line and call for line that is okay

The one that pissed me off the most as a techie and as an actor is when people would do mic check but not say there lines like they would in the show. So the entire time there mikes would be either too loud or too quiet.
