@funcheta.studio: Your dad leaves the heating on all day. He says switching it off makes it work twice as hard. So we ran it, in a model of a real house on a cold November day. Gas boiler: the timer wins, but only by about a tenth, because warming a cold house back up eats most of the saving. Heat pump: it saves almost nothing, so leave it on. A model with stated assumptions, not a measured house. So, who's right in your house? #heating #energybills #heatpump #simulation #ukhomes
The Dad is right. £100 is a bargain for the convenience of never touching the thermostat all year.

no one says leave it on at full temperature they say leave it on. so this doesn't prove or show anything. you haven't built a house. the point is is that the house works like a storage heater.
and if you let it get cold enough pipes burst

now factor in damp and having to run a dehumidifier because moisture is condensing on cold surfaces

CONDENSATION? Make temperature swings inside the house and get moisture and mold. Even for 10% bigger gas bill I'd say my lungs and health are worth it.

depends if house is insulated well.
if not, heat pours out more and boiler needs to keep firing up

So it’s negligible (10% saving), at the expense of condensation and mould

i never have the heating on in winter as there's no need to line the gas company pockets but my carers moan it's to cold for them but its not about them its about me and my comfort.

Heat pump you can save a little by setting it to a couple degrees colder when no one is home (like instead of 23c you put it at 20c
